Shirley Temple molds...

No two Shirley Temple dolls look alike!  Not only do the dolls have distinctly different characteristics, but even the size itself varied from year to year, and mold to mold, and design to design...The characteristics listed below are observed from the dolls shown above, they may vary doll to doll and size to size.

The first Shirley Temple mold, issued in early 1934, was called the "prototype doll" she had the characteristic of:
-lower forehead
-light paint color over entire body
-no mark on the back of her head (only a paper tag on the inside of the head marked "Cop 1934 Ideal Novelty & Toy Co."
-light painting of facial features
-rosy cheeks
-larger eyes, very chubby cheeks
-a more strawberry blonde hair color, bias tape around edge of wig, and very loose formed curls
-six small teeth in mouth
-original pin that came with the doll wasn't the common one with her finger next to her face, it was a different shot o her smiling, wearing overalls.

The second Shirley Temple mold, issued in late 1934 through early 1935, had the characteristics of:
brighter facial paint
-more distinct curls, but still loose
-hair is lighter-more blond colored wig, more distinct curls, but still loose
-commonly marked on head with SHIRLEY TEMPLE ©IDEAL N&TC. and SHIRLEY TEMPLE 20 (the size in inches of the doll) on the back.
-clothes may still have the NRA tag
-cheeks not quite as chubby (very round face)
-more distinct cheek color

The third Shirley Temple mold, issued in 1935, had the characteristics of:
-very golden complexion
-very rosy cheeks, darker painted features
-golden colored wig, distinct hair part, with very distinct curls all around the head
-cheeks definitely not as chubby as the earlier models
-amusingly enough, these next three dolls are a bit taller than the previous two
The fourth Shirley Temple design, issued in 1937(which may be the same mold as the previous one), had the characteristics of:
-lighter paint complexion
-darker facial features, eyebrows, lipstick, and has eye shadow!!!
-distinct side part, with curls at the side, darker in color
-longer dress (sometimes)
-flirty eyes (none of the earlier dolls of this size have the flirty eyes)
The final Shirley Temple design, issued in around 1940, had the characteristics of:
-natural complexion, rosy cheeks
-eye shadow and different facial feature placement and design
-distinctly different hairstyle, with curls at the side and in front, darker in color
-longer dress (sometimes), or lower waist (sometimes)
-more distinct chin and much less distinct eyelash area (not sure if this is because the previous mold had been used too often and begun to deteriorate, or if it is actually a new mold design
